About our organization
Ridge and Valley Conservancy (RVC) is a non-profit, accredited land trust dedicated to preserving and managing land in northwestern New Jersey for the benefit of natural communities. We currently oversee 22 preserves in the Ridge and Valley Region, many of which are open to the public and have hiking trails. To date, RVC has preserved over 5,000 acres and works closely with other conservation stakeholders to ensure the preservation of critical land in its focus area. RVC engages the public through meaningful programming designed to connect people to nature.
The position
We seek passionate and dynamic individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help lead our organization meet our strategic goals. Board Members will work collaboratively with other members and the Executive Director to set the organization's direction, ensure good governance, and support RVC's land preservation and community conservation mission.
Responsibilities
Support RVC through personal donations or active participation in fundraising efforts to ensure financial stability
Responsible for governance and oversight to uphold legal compliance and ethical standards
Assist in developing and implementing strategies to fulfill RVC's mission through short and long-term goals
Provide financial oversight by approving budgets and monitoring performance to ensure adequate program resources
Fundraising and resource development to secure funding from diverse sources and maintain relationships with donors
Engage with the community and promote RVC's mission through public relations and partnerships
Program oversight to ensure alignment with the organization's mission and assess program effectiveness
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations and mitigate risks that could impact operations
Participate in board development by recruiting new members and evaluating performance
Qualifications
Expertise in marketing, fundraising, outreach, legal, or related fields is preferred
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and remotely
Passion for land preservation and stewardship in the Ridge and Valley Region of New Jersey
Previous Board or leadership experience is a plus
Commitment to conservation and environmental protection
Experience serving on nonprofit boards or committees
Financial acumen and ability to interpret financial statements
Ability to make an annual donation to RVC
